Typically, Microsoft would release GP’s latest upgrade one year after GP 2018’s initial release this past December. However, they seem to be so excited and confident about this year’s enhancements they will be rolling them out in just one month on October 1st, which will coincide with Microsoft’s broader release of business applications also coming out in October. If you are a Dynamics GP user, you won’t want to miss out on these new features. Four main areas of enhancement you can find in October are Financial Enhancements, Purchasing Usability, Sales Optimization, and Top Feature Requests, although there are many many more. Check out a few of the highlights in each of these categories below (and these are just the highlights!):

Financial Enhancements

  • Exclude items in HITB with zero quantities
  • Transaction level post to GL
  • Payroll Pay code start and end dates
  • Payroll shared maximums for deductions and benefits
  • Monthly and Bimonthly recurring batches
  • Don’t display inactive checkbooks in Look ups

Purchasing Usability

  • Mass update inactive from Navigation List – Inactivate Reactivate Temporary
  • Add Vendor doc number to Purchase all in one
  • Email customer statements

Sales Optimization

  • Print Invoice in Functional from SOP Navigation List
  • Sales Transaction Workflow
  • New SmartList for Deposits on Unposted Sales Transactions

Top Feature Requests

  • Hide Business Analyzer for all users
  • Increase Dynamics GP password maximum length to 21 characters
  • Password expiration notification

In addition to the new features and enhancements, with this release we are seeing the term Intelligent Edge come into play and will see this term more and more as noted on the GP Roadmap found below.

But what is Intelligent Edge? Microsoft has stated there are more details to come but for now we know that with this release you can take some of your master record GP data and put it into the cloud with Business Central. It will also provide a mobile portal for analyzing your on-prem data. When you install 2018 R2 you will see a new tab on your home page labeled “Intelligent Edge” granting you access to all this new technology has to offer. You can read more about Intelligent Edge on Microsoft’s website.
